Jacqueline is an artist based in Gloucestershire, working primarily in oils, and a keen sketcher whose work is often rooted in observations of the local landscape and plants.
Having graduated from the London College of Fashion in 1980 with a London Diploma in Fashion Design, and having some fashion illustrations published in the 80’s, her life then changed direction, working in fashion retail and raising a family.
Furloughed from work in 2020 during the pandemic, she began taking daily walks along local footpaths, getting closer to the nearby countryside, observing the day to day changes in the landscape and plants. Having always enjoyed drawing, and occasional watercolour work, in the unexpected time and space of 2020 she was inspired to explore painting with oils for the first time and found new excitement in this expressive medium. She eventually took early retirement rather than return to work, to pursue her passion for painting.
Jacqueline is drawn to the play of light, colour, and pattern, her paintings often capturing a sense of time and season, as she seeks to express the feeling of being within nature at a moment in time. Her floral and still life works are painted in the studio, interspersing alla prima and longer timescale pieces. Her landscapes are sometimes painted en plein air and tweaked alla prima in the studio the same day, but often are studio works painted over a period of time.
